International Rehab

Costa Rica 2011

In 2011, Dr. Tran travelled to Costa Rica to help deliver wheelchairs to those who are disabled.

No man can exist as an island. When like minded people collaborate, amazing things occur. This happens to be the case with regards to Rotary International and The Wheelchair Foundation.

"Rotary is a worldwide organization of more than 1.2 million business, professional, and community leaders. Members of Rotary clubs, known as Rotarians, provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world."

"The Wheelchair Foundation is a non-profit organization with a goal to provide a free wheelchair to every child, teen and adult worldwide who needs one, but has no means to acquire one."

Robert Bitter is a Rotarian from Northern California who has organized several trips to Latin American countries to deliver wheelchairs. Mr. Bitter led a wheelchair distribution trip to Costa Rica in 2011. Regional Rotary Clubs help raise the funds for the wheelchairs while The Wheelchair Foundation coordinate the logistics of delivering the wheelchairs to their destined country. Once the wheelchairs arrive at their destined country, Rotarians and other volunteers at the destined country distribute the wheelchairs to those who are disabled. While in Costa Rica, Costa Rican Rotarians and other service groups such as the Lions Clubs helped distribute the wheelchairs.

Regardless whether it be a bottoms up or top down approach, collaboration is the key factor in effecting a positive change not only for the disabled community, but for society as a whole.
